The Rings of Power takes place when? explained is the Lord of the Rings timeline

The Rings of Power is the most recent version of JRR Tolkien's fantasy drama, which once again takes place in Middle Earth and features elves, hobbits, and everything in between.

The Amazon Prime series, which reportedly costs $1 billion (£869 million) for five seasons, has breathtaking scenery and dramatic conflicts.

It features Morfydd Clark from His Dark Materials and Robert Amarayo from Game of Thrones as the elves Galadriel and Elrond, who were formerly played by Cate Blanchett and Hugo Weaving in Peter Jackson's well-liked trilogy.

Other cast members include Trystan Gravelle from A Discovery of Witches, Benjamin Walker, Nazanin Boniadi, Owain Arthur, and Sir Lenny Henry.

But when precisely does The Rings of Power take place, even though we know it's a prologue to both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings?

In each of Tolkien's four ages of Middle Earth, there is a titanic conflict between good and evil.

Frodo Baggins and Gollum are seen arguing over the One Ring in The Lord of the Rings, which takes place in the Third Age. The One Ring is ultimately destroyed when it falls into Mount Doom's raging lava.

The Dark Lord Sauron, the ruler of Mordor, as well as the omnipotent jewellery, infamously referenced to by Gollum as "my precious," were both vanquished.

The adventures of Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit happened before the events of The Lord of the Rings, which Peter Jackson turned into a well-known film series.

The epic story, which is still set in the Third Age, follows Martin Freeman's character Bilbo as he fights for the Lonely Mountain, which the evil dragon Skaug has taken.

The Rings of Power is based on Second Age events rather than those of the Third Age.

This shows that The Hobbit and LOTR take place thousands of years before the most recent Tolkien adaptation.

What period does The Rings of Power cover?

The Rings of Power

The creation of the rings, the ascent of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic story of Nmenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men will all be covered in The Rings of Power, which will span the entire Second Age.

And it's a long period, considering that the Second Age lasts for over 3,500 years.

The elven realms of Lindon and Eregion, the dwarven realm of Khazad-dûm, the Southlands, the northernmost wastes, the Sundering Seas, and the island kingdom of Nmenór will all be explored over the course of the eight-part series over thousands of years.

The Rings of Abilities picks up steam early on as powers develop, kingdoms rise to glory and collapse to ruin, and they put the fortitude of improbable heroes to the test.

You can watch The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Amazon Prime.
