 With his tenth victory of the year in the Belgian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen increased his lead in the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship.

Verstappen, the defending World Champion for Red Bull, earned the maximum 26 points at Spa-Francorchamps, increasing his advantage over teammate Sergio Perez, who moved into second place behind Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, to 93 points. After receiving a late penalty for speeding in the pits while attempting to win the point for best lap, the Ferrari driver had yet another difficult race and could only manage to finish sixth.

Verstappen now has a 98-point lead over Leclerc. Carlos Sainz overtakes George Russell of Mercedes by one point thanks to his third-place finish in Belgium. Due to Lewis Hamilton's first-lap retirement, Russell has gained 24 points over him.

After the Scuderia's poor performance, Red Bull pulls 118 points ahead of Ferrari in the constructors' standings thanks to its maximum 44-point performance in Belgium.

But in the race for second, Mercedes fell behind Ferrari by 11 points, increasing the distance to 41. At Spa, Alpine outperformed McLaren by a significant margin, moving up to fourth place with a 20-point lead.

 

Both Aston Martin and AlphaTauri gained points, with Aston narrowing the margin in the race for seventh to five. Despite earning its fourth point of the year, Williams is still 20 points behind.
